The Dutch counter-tenor, Wilko Koekoek, began singing at the age of 6, as a boy soprano in the Roder Jongenskoor. When his voice broke in 2016, he chose counter-tenor as his voice. He began lessons with David van Laar in 2017 and a year later with Hanneke de Wit in the Young Talent Class of the Prins Claus Conservatorium Groningen (since September 2018). In September 2020, he began studying with Hanneke de Wit and Paul Triepels for the Bachelor's degree in Classical Singing at the Prins Claus Conservatorium Groningen, graduating in 2024.
As a counter-tenor, Wilko Koekoek has sung in various ensembles, including The Gents, Nederlandse Bach Academie and Luthers Bach Ensemble, focusing primarily on Renaissance and Baroque repertoire. He is also increasingly active as a soloist, performing works such as J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion BWV 244, Purcell's Dido & Aeneas, George Frideric Handel's Dixit Dominus, and Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria.
Since 2023, Wilko Koekoek has been a vocal teacher, teaching with the Roder Jongenskoor and the Roden Girl Choristers, among others. He currently lives in Vries, Drenthe. |
