Robert Kuizenga (Counter-tenor)

Born: 1984 - Groningen, the Netherlands

The Dutch counter-tenor, Robert Kuizenga, started as a treble at the Rodenboys Choir led by Bouwe Dijkstra. As head soloist of the Rodenboys Choir he was allowed to account for Angel part from the Oratorio Jephtha (George Frideric Handel) led by Paul McCreesh and the Dritte Knabe role from W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte led by Ton Koopman. After his voice broke Robert had lessons as a counter-tenor from Jan Zwerver and Eugenie Ditewig at the conservatory of Utrecht. In the past years he has followed lessons by Pierre Mak, Michael Chance and Maarten Engeltjes. At the moment he is being coached by Margreet Honig.

As a soloist Robert Kuizenga performed in the performances of oratorios, passions and cantatas. Here he sang under the lead of Ton Koopman, Jos van Veldhoven and Peter Dijkstra, amongst others. He won the Jury and audience prize of the concours “captivated by the Hohe Messe” which is why he then followed master-classes by Johannette Zomer. Additionally, he was a soloist in the role of General in the piece Mighty Music in the Concertgebouw with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra. Recently, he made a tour performing the Nisi Dominus (Antonio Vivaldi) accompanied by the Luthers Bach Ensemble led by Rachel Podger. He is occasionally active as an ensemble singer. For 15 years, he has been a core member of Collegium Vocale Gent (Director: Philippe Herreweghe) and sang in a number of different professional ensembles.
