The Hong Kong Chinese mezzo-soprano, Jeannette Lee, obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and English from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (2011-2015); her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from New England Conservatory of Music (2017-2019), where she was Graduate Assistant in the Music History Department; and her Doctor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Boston University (Septmber 2020; expected graduation: May 2025), where she was Applied Music Instructor (Voice) (September 2020-May 2023), Aural Skills Instructor (January 2021-May 2023) and Keyboard Harmony Instructor (September 2021-May 2023). She was a finalist in the 8th Concurso Internacional de Canto Linus Lerner. She was also a prize-winner in 2023 William C. Byrd Young Artist Competition and received the Hilda Harris Mezzo Soprano Prize at the 2022 George Shirley Vocal Competition.
Recently lauded by Boston Musical Intelligencer for her “warm mezzo tone”, Jeannette Lee is a sought-after versatile performer based in Chicago, Illinois. On the international concert stage, she has appeared as a soloist in J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor BWV 232 (Cantata Singers, 2023) and BWV 70 & BWV 130 (Cantata Singers, 2022), L.v. Beethoven's Chorale Fantasy, George Frideric Handel's Dixit Dominus (Cantata Singers, 2022) and Messiah (2022), Benjamin Britten's Cantata Academica (2021), Monteverdi’s Marienvespers (2017) and Osvaldo Golijov’s Oceana (Cantata Singers, 2022). Her operatic roles include Cherubino in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, Hänsel in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel, Fox in Janáček's The Cunning Little Vixen, Hermia in B. Britten's A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Antonia in R. Wagner's Das Liebesverbot.
Jeannette Lee recently premiered the role of Mom in Emily Koh’s HER | alive.un.dead with Guerilla Opera (2022-2023). This season, she appeared in Boston Lyric Opera’s Madama Butterfly as Chorus and Suzuki Study Cover (2023), Annio in Opera del West’s W.A. Mozart's La clemenza di Tito (2023), Ottavia in West End Lyric’s Il giuoco del quadriglio (2023), and Grandmother Lily in White Snake Projects’ Let’s Celebrate series (2023).
