The English bass, Thomas Lowen, started singing at the age of 8 as a Canterbury Cathedral chorister. After dropping several octaves, he went on to become a bass in the Choir of New College, Oxford, graduating with a first-class degree in Music (October 2013-July 2016). Subsequently he completed a master’s degree in Solo-Voice Ensemble Singing at the University of York, coupled with a choral scholarship at York Minster (2016-2017).
After his studies, Thomas Lowen took up a Lay Clerkship at Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford (2017-2019), and studies singing with Alexander Ashworth at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He has recently moved to London to take up a position in the Choir of the London Oratory (since September 2019), alongside a varied freelance singing career. He regularly appears on the opera stage and as a concert soloist, and has performed with some of the foremost vocal ensembles in the country, including the BBC Singers, Ex Cathedra (Director: Jeffrey Skidmore), Oxford Bach Soloists (Director: Tom Hammond-Davies), I Fagiolini (Director: Robert Hollingworth), The Tallis Scholars (Director: Peter Phillips), Stile Antico, and Instruments of Time & Truth. |
