The Swiss mezzo-sorano/contralto, Judith Lüpold, grew up in Interlaken and now lives in Bern. In addition to attending the Staatlichen Seminars Bern, she also studied singing and dance in Bern and Zürich. At the beginning she was mainly involved in dance theater and musicals and, among other things, was engaged by the Stadttheater Bern for Caberet under the direction of Stefan Huber. She graduated from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Bern und Biel with a teaching and concert diploma with Ingrid Frauchiger and Jane Thorner Mengedoht. For a long time she was a member of the Pocket Opera Zürich (since October 2019) and Senzaltro This was followed by master-classes and coaching, among others with Kurt Widmer, Karin Ott, Carol Smith, Antoinette Faës, Siegfried Palm, Ewald Körner, Marit Sauramo, Jeanne Piland and and Ursula Füri-Bernhard.
Judith Lüpold is one of the central contralto players in Switzerland. She has co-operated with Stefan Huber, Andreas Zimmermann, Siegfried Palm, Andrea Bernard, Georg Rootering, Jürg Henneberger, Howard Griffiths and Kevin Griffiths (Pirates of Pencanze and Barbe Bleue), Kelly Thomas from Opernhaus Zürich (Le voyage dans la lune), Franco Trinca, Todd Camburn, Mack Sawyer, Volker Vogel and Paul Suter, among othes. Her repertoire includes standard works by J.S. Bach, George Frideric Handel and Verdi's Requiem to contemporary works and interdisciplinary projects. She is a guest in all major concert halls in Switzerland and at international festivals.
Judith Lüpold can also be seen regularly on the opera and operetta stage. She played the role of Marcellina in the new version of Figaro by Christian Hengking at the Biel / Solothurn theater. The production was broadcast live by TV Arte at the Szeged Festival in October 2014. In the 2019-2020 season she embodied the Marquise de Berkenfield with great success in La Fille du Régiment. In the 2021-2022 season, she is again in a successful parade role as Madame Latente in Casanova in der Schweiz by Paul Burkhard, to be heard and seen. The singer, who has a wide range of interests, is always interested in new music and performances. In 2005, Musikszene Schweiz released a CD with settings of Gotthelf texts by Armin Schibler and Willy Burkhard.
