The Dutch tenor, tenor, singing teacher and vocal coach, Arco Mandemaker, majored in singing at the Rotterdams Conservatorium with Sylvia Schlüter and Maarten Koningsberger and majored in choral conducting with Barend Schuurman (2000). He also took part in master-classes by Barbara Bonney, Carolyn Watkinson, Margreet Honig and Ian Bostridge, among others. After his singing studies he was coached by Jard van Nes and specialized in Baroque performance practice with Howard Crook.
Arco Mandemaker developed into a versatile singer with a repertoire that encompasses all style periods. His great affinity with the oratorio genre found its way into the many solo contributions he has made to date with many Dutch Oratorio Societies, Toonkunst choirs, chamber choirs and vocal ensembles. As a soloist he has performed in, among others, Heinrich Schütz' Weihnachtshistorie, the oratorios of George Frideric Handel, Arthur Honegger and Felix Mendelssohn, W.A. Mozart's Requiem, L.v. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, Puccini's Messa di Gloria and Verdi's Requiem. In addition to J.S. Bach's cantatas, Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) and Masss in B minor (BWV 232), his repertoire also includes the Evangelist and arias from the St. John Passion (BWV 245) and St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244). Within the genre of chamber music, he has given many Early Music recitals and he can be heard regularly in the classical, romantic and contemporary song repertoire.
As artistic director of Stichting Musica Inaudita, the professional Gombert Consort and the semi-professional Schütz Vocaal Ensemble, Arco Mandemaker gave vocal interpretation to many performances in which 'unheard' repertoire was brought to the attention of a wider audience.
In addition to his solo activities, Arco Mandemaker is active as a freelancer with various professional Dutch ensembles, he gives lectures under the title 'A singer as speaker' and he has a teaching practice under the name 'klassiekzangles.nl'. Hae currently lives in Noordwijkerhout, South Holland. |
