Aurora Martin (Soprano)

Born: Arlington, Virginia, USA

The American soprano, Aurora Martin, born and raised in Arlington, received her Bachelor’s degrees in Music and Chemistry from Virginia Tech (2012). In 2011, she was selected as a Young Apprentice Artist with Opera Roanoke and made her professional debut as Inez in Il Trovatore that Fall, under the baton of former Artistic Director Scott Williamson. In addition to performances in opera and art song during her undergraduate degree, she was the soloist of L2ork, a Linux Laptop Orchestra. With L2ork she sang at conferences across the USA as well as Europe during a 3 week European tour.

Migrating north from her native Virginia in 2013, Aurora Martin pursued and completed her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance at The New England Conservatory (NEC) (2015). At NEC she performed Pamina in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, for which she received the Emerging Artist of the Year award from the W.I.S.E. Foundation (2015). Her love of concert work led her to performances of Erik Satie’s Socrates (2015) and Gustav Mahler’s Das Knaben Wunderhorn with NEC’s orchestras. She was also a Beneficent Society Scholarship recipient (2014).

Aurora Martin a has been an artist with a number of apprentice and training programs. She spent the summer of 2017 in the Ozark mountains where she performed Micaëla in Georges Bizet's Carmen and Mrs. Gleaton in Floyd's Susannah during Opera in the Ozark's 67th season (2017). Previous years have included the CoOPERAtive Program at Westminster Choir College as a Fellow (2016), under the direction of Laura Brooks Rice and Nova Thomas; and the International Vocal Arts Institute in Montréal, Québec (2015), founded by Joan Dornemann. She has participated in other programs such as the Bel Canto Institute in Florence, Italy (2011); University of Miami Summer in Salzburg (2012); Astoria Music Festival (2013); and the Wintergreen Summer Music Festival.

Boston-based performer Aurora Martin is quickly becoming recognized for her colorful and sparkling soprano. She performs with many organizations in the Boston area. You can see her with Odyssey Opera; most recently as Dame/Maid of Honor in their Henry VIII fall production (2019), The Boston Modern Orchestra Project, the Arlington-Belmont Chorale, Opera del West, Opera on Tap Boston, the North End Music Performing Arts Center & Boston One City Choir, the Dante Alighieri Society of Cambridge and MetroWest Opera. She is the soprano in residence at Christ Church Episcopal in Quincy, Massachusetts and has previously sung with St. Paul's Cathedral in Boston as well as St. Benedict's of East Somerville.
