Christina Mattaj (Contralto)

Born: Germany

The German contralto, Christina Mattaj, received her first musical training at the Heinrich-Schütz-Konservatorium in Dresden in the subjects of singing and piano. She later studied singing and vocal pedagogy at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, with Maria de Francesca-Cavazza and Adalbert Kraus, among others. She also attended master-classes with personalities such as Emma Kirkby and Brigitte Fassbaender.

Since 2002, Christina Mattaj has been a member of the Opernchores am Opernhaus Halle / Saale. In addition to her choral work, she also regularly takes on solo roles here, such as Servant in Loewe's My Fair Lady (2012-2013), James (2021) and Jacobus (2022) in George Frideric Handel's Brockes Passion, HWV 48, Cio-Cio San's Mother in Puccini's Madama Butterfly (2024-2025). In addition to her work in the opera choir, she is also in demand as a concert singer and also works in the field of vocal pedagogy, including early musical education.
