The German soprano/mezzo-soprano, Raphaela Mayhaus, began her studies in 1985 with a degree in music education for secondary school education at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover and Romance Studies at the Universität Hannover. After completing her first state examination, she pursued three years of opera studies, graduating with a diploma in opera performance and the grade "very good." Even during her studies, she began an active solo concert career, which, following her appointment as a soprano with the NDR Chor (now: NDR Vokalensemble) in January 1994, remains a key pillar of her singing career.
Raphaela Mayhaus has won first and second prizes multiple times in the VDMK-Regionalwettbewerb and was a scholarship recipient of the Richard-Wagner-Verbands. Vocal lessons and master-classes with Judith Beckmann, Nina Dorliak, Helmuth Rilling, Mitsuko Shirai, and Hartmut Höll enriched her musical development. Side projects in the death-symphonic and gothic metal genres, in the form of background vocals for several CD productions (Lacrimosa and Therion), demonstrate the full range of her musical work.
In 2019-2020, a change in vocal specialization began, which was supported and successfully completed through intensive vocal studies and pedagogically sound vocal training. As a result, Raphaela Mayhaus has now successfully joined the alto section of the NDR Vokalensemble (Director: Klaas Stok). |
