The American mezzo-soprano, voice teacher, music educator and conductor, Alson Richter-Meuth, studied at Western Illinois University, Bradley University and Illinois State University. She spent several years studying with coaches from The Metropolitan Opera as well as studying with world renowned soprano Virginia Zeani and conductor Fiora Contino.
Alison Meuth, a distinguished soprano with an illustrious career spanning multiple facets of the music world, is celebrated as a five-time NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) winner. Renowned for her captivating performances, she spent ten years in the early 2000's as a professional opera singer working on the stages of esteemed opera houses. She made her operatic debut with Opera Illinois as Inez in Il Trovatore in 2002. She went on to sing Alice in Lucia and the title role in Suor Angelica for them as well as covering the mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors and Donna Elvira in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni. She was also part of their Young Artist's Ensemble. She sang Liu in Turandot for Utah Festival opera as well as Sarah Goode in The Crucible. Alison had the opportunity to work for Sarasota Opera where she toured with Madame Butterfly. She also performed scenes concerts for that company. She sang the role of Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana to rave reviews for Annapolis Opera. A year later she sang the title role in Tosca for them where the Baltimore Sun Times applauded her performance. She has also sung the Countess in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze Di Figaro. In her operatic roles she showcased her talent and versatility. She is a stalwart presence in chamber music, musical theater, oratorio, and opera. She returned home to the Peoria area in 2009. She had the opportunity in Spring 2015 to sing the Verdi Requiem Soprano Solo with the Knox and Monmouth Colleges as well as the Galesburg Community Chorus.
In addition to her thriving performance career, Alison Meuth is deeply committed to music education and community engagement. Having shared her expertise with students at Knox College (Private Voice teacher, including teaching vocal pedagogy as well as the opera workshop class, until 2024), Monmouth College, and currently at Bradley University (Instructor in Residence of Voice since 2025), she has inspired countless aspiring vocalists to reach new heights of excellence. She was a member of the Saint Martin Chamber Players and made her New York City debut with them at Merkin Concert Hall in 2002. She was a member of the Peoria Lunaire New Music Ensemble at Bradley University. She wrote a Solfege and Full Music curriculum for the Child Light Institute of North Carolina. She was director of the Peoria Cooperative Academy’s Chorale, Madrigal Group, and Musical Theater Program. She was also the director of the First Presbyterian Choir in Galesburg. She has spent many years traveling to third-world countries using her gift of music to teach and reach out to teachers and people in the community.
As an active music director of musicals, Alison Meuth brings passion and creativity to her productions, enriching the theatrical landscape with her vision and artistry. Furthermore, her dedication to nurturing young talent extends beyond the classroom, as she serves as the creative director of the RKF After School program in the South Side of Peoria, Illinois. This innovative program leverages the power of the performing arts to combat violence and foster positive change in the community.
Alison Meuth's commitment to her craft and her community is further demonstrated through her role as the current Secretary of the central Illinois NATS chapter. In this capacity, she works tirelessly to promote excellence in vocal pedagogy and performance, ensuring the continued growth and vibrancy of the musical arts in the region. With a career marked by passion, dedication, and a profound commitment to artistic excellence and social impact, she continues to inspire and uplift audiences, students, and communities alike. She currently lives in Peoria, Illinois with her husband Jeremy and three children and spends her time singing sacred music, musical theater and opera in the Central Illinois area. Since September 2019, she serves as Spiritual Formation Director at United Presbyterian Church in Peoria. |
