The American bass-baritone and music teacher, James Nicholas Monios, studied Music History & Literature, Piano Performance, Music from California State University, Long Beach (Class of 1983); and obtained his Master of Arts degree in Historical Musicology from University of California Santa Barbara (1985-1987). While studied for this degree, he also studied piano, double-bass and voice.
James Monios enjoys a varied musical career as a performer and teacher. Since moving to San Francisco in 1991, he has performed with many of the finest ensembles in the Bay Area, including San Francisco Opera Chorus (since November 2000), Philharmonia Baroque Chorale (since 1999), American Bach Soloists (since 2002; Director: Jeffrey Thomas), San Francisco Choral Artists, Clerestory (since December 2008), Schola Adventus (since 2010) and Cantata Collective (Director: Nicholas McGegan); and has appeared as soloist with San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco City Concert Opera, Soli Deo Gloria, Magnificat.
James Monios has been bass soloist at Temple Sherith-Israel and several San Francisco churches, including St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church (2007-2010); and Church of the Advent of Christ the King, where he also served as Associate Director of Music. He began working with Piedmont Children’s Choir in 1994 and has continued teaching and conducting in private schools ever since, while maintaining a private piano studio in San Francisco. He currently lives in San Francisco, California. |
