Pieter De Moor (Tenor, Choral Conductor)

Born: June 2, 1989 - Aalst, Belgium

The Belgian tenor and choral conductor, Pieter De Moor, began his musical career in Aalst at the Belgian boys choir Schola Cantorum Cantate Domino conducted by Michael Ghijs and took at the same time lessons in singing and flute at the Academies of Aalst and Asse. He studied singing, transverse flute and harpsichord at Lemmensinstituut in Leuven where he had lessons with Dirk Snellings, Frank Theuns, Erik Van Nevel, Kris Verhelst and Dina Grossberger. He also attended master-classes, among others, with Maarten Koningsberger, Stephan Van Dyck, Nicolas Achten, Deborah York, ...

As a singer Pieter De Moor performed all over the world with ensembles such as Vox Luminis (Director: Lionel Meunier), Scherzi Musicali, Capilla Flamenca, Cappella Pratensis, Currende, Ex Tempore (Director: Florian Heyerick), Studium Chorale, Laudantes Consort, Victoria Consort, Vlaams Radio Koor, Ensemble BachPlus (Director: Bart Naessens),... He is also asked as soloist and participated in projects such as J.S. Bach’s Johannes Passion (BWV 245) and the Evangelist in Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) and lots of cantatas by different composers.

Besides Pieter De Moor has a lot of experience as conductor and led a variety of concerts with choir and orchestra. He is conductor of two Belgian choirs (De Sangghesellen from Beersel and Brussels Bachkoor) and works regularly as coach for lots of other choirs. But also as music pedagogue he’s always searching for the best.

Pieter De Moor specializes in authentic performance practice and in particular the use of the voice specifically to each period and genre with an emphasis on Renaissance and Baroque music. In 2015, he founded his own early music soloist ensemble, Musae Jovis, in the aim to explore known and unknown repertoire of the 17th and early 18th centuries. Musae Jovis was brought together by and around Pieter De Moor and comprises 2 violins, viola da gamba, theorbo and organ or harpsichord. Having met between the highly recognised conservatoires of Belgium, the diverse talents and versatility of the members promise an ever interesting energy. Ensemble Charles Quint is a project created in 2017 and dedicated to vocal music mostly of the Renaissance period. Based in Brussels, the ensemble gathers twelve semi-professional singers under the direction of Pieter De Moor.

Pieter De Moor recorded CD's with Vox Luminis, Cappella Pratensis and Musae Jovis. He is working currently on an other recording with Musae Jovis which will be music from Scarlatti. He currently lives in Brussels, Belgium.
