The Polish tenor and music pedagogue, Kazimierz Myrlak, was the son of Jan and Stefania née Kosińskiej (Kosińska). His first vocal experience was a church choir. Then in the 1960's he participated and won the competition of amateur singers Echo Kraków and Radio Kraków. Famous Polish artists singers out of these competitions, Wiesław Ochman, Alicja Pągowska, Jerzy Sypek. He passed his final exams in 1956 at the Liceum Pedagogicznym (Pedagogical High School) in Nowy Sącz, and then began his studies at the Wydziale Wokalnym Państwowej Wyższej Szkole Muzycznej (Vocal Faculty of the State Higher School of Music) in Krakow. He studied vocal technique in the class of Anna Kaczmarowa and Włodzimierz Kaczmar (1893-1964), a continuator of the Old Italian singing technique. He completed his vocal studies in 1964 with a Master of Music degree with Honors. In 1965 he was a scholarship holder of the Italian government. Confirmation of his vocal skills were three laurels won during the International Singing Competitions in Munich (1964), Toulouse (1965) and Rio de Janeiro (1967).
From 1962 to 1972, Kazimierz Myrlak was a soloist of the Miejskiego Teatru Muzycznego (Municipal Music Theater) in Krakow, and then at the Opery Wrocławskiej (Wrocław Opera; 1972-1975), Warszawskiej Opery Kameralnej (Warsaw Chamber Opera; 1975-1987) and the i Opery Wrocławskiej (Wrocław Opera; 1987-1990). He sang as a guest on all other opera stages and philharmonic shalls in Poland. He participated in great world music festivals, including in Aix-en-Provence, Sant Maximin, La Chaise Dieu, Lille, Brighton, Cheltenham, New Port, Martin Franca, Taormina, Rome, Barcelona, Istanbul and West Berlin. He also made numerous artistic travels around Europe and the USA. His repertoire included 50 leading opera roles and about 60 oratorio-cantata parts, many song cycles, sung music, from Gregorian chant to contemporary music.
In the meantime, Kazimierz Myrlak was a lecturer (1969-1973), from 1970 with the academic title of contractual Associate Professor at the PWSM in Katowice, in 1984-1987 a senior lecturer at the Music Academy in Bydgoszcz, in 1987-1995 a senior lecturer and in 1995-2000 associate professor at the Music Academy in Wrocław. From the 1970's, he is associated with the Akademią Muzyczną im. Karola Lipińskiego (Academy of Music Karol Lipiński) in Wrocław, where he teaches vocal class].
Kazimierz Myrlak's achievements have been documented on numerous albums (operas and songs), recordings of opera performances and liturgical dramas, including for German, French and Italian television; radio broadcast performances. He also took part in the recording of G. Donizetti's opera Favorita in the company of, among others, M. Bianca and G. Taddei. |
