The American mezzo-soprano, Kirsten E. Overdahl, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance Magna Cum Laude from St. Olaf College (2011-2016), where she toured with the St. Olaf Choir (Director: Anton Armstrong) and studied voice with Margaret Eaves-Smith. Since 2018, she has had the immense pleasure of studying with Grammy award-winning soprano Andrea Edith Moore.
Kirsten Overdahl is a recitalist and ensemble musician based in Durham, North Carolina. As a soloist, recent performance highlights include J. Haydn's Missa in Angustiis and Benjamin Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb at Duke University Chapel, and excerpts from W.A. Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito and Gounod's Roméo et Juliette with Sidewalk Opera Company. She is also a frequent ensemble member in Duke's Bach Cantata series. She is currently a staff musician at Duke Chapel, where she serves as a soloist, cantor, and ensemble member for the Chapel Choir (Director: Zebulon Highben) and Duke Chapel Evensong Singers and Vespers ensembles (Director: Philip Cave).
By day, Kirsten Overdahl is an environmental health research scientist and metabolomics chemist for the National Institutes of Health (since August 2021). She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree Chemistry, Environmental Studies from the St. Olaf College (2011-2015); and her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Integrated Toxicology and Environmental Health Program from the the Duke University (August 2016-October 2021). She also has Certification in Science Communication from the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) (2017); and Environmental Law Certificate from The University of Texas at Austin (January-June 2025). She is delighted to be able to dedicate her life toward helping others feel seen and heard through her dual passions as a scientist and musician. Since 2016, she lives in Durham, North Carolina.. She is grateful to share a music-filled life with her husband, musicologist and collaborative pianist Dr. Cole D. Swanson, and their musical cat Isaac. |
