Tge German mezzo-soprano, Almut Pessara, the daughter of a pastor, grew up in East Germany. She was only able to pursue her long-desired studies in concert singing after moving to the West in 1984. She was director of the Sängervereinigung Saulheim: Frauenchor (1987-1990). Since 1990, she has been a member of the NDR Vokalensemble (then: NDR Chor), and her warm and powerful alto voice has been heard in numerous solos, for example, in Sergei Rachmaninov's Vespers under the direction of Howard Arman and in Robert Schumann's Das Paradies und die Peri under Sir John Eliot Gardiner. In November 2024, she sang W.A. Mozart's Requiem with Wörrstädter Kantorei and Camerata Risonanza conducted by Peter Meyer. |
