The American soprano and music teacher, Jessica Ashley Petrus, obtained her Bachelor of Mausic degree in in Voice Performance and Education at the University of Michigan (September 2002-May 2008), where she also studied French Minor; and her Master of Music degree in Performance - Voice from the Yale Institute of Sacred Music (September 2010-May 2012).
Jessica Petrus is active as a self-employe professional musician and teacher since July 2012. Lauded for her “impressive clarity and color” by the New York Times, she is passionate about performing and teaching chamber music to all ages. Her last season included solo performances with the Newburyport Choral Society, Musicians of the Old Post Road, Tufts University, Shelter Music Boston, Emmanuel Music, and Henry Purcell Society of Boston. Her and violinist Jacob Ashworth's recent recording of Susan Kander's A Garden's Time Piece on the composer's album, "Hermestänz", (MSR Classics, 2017) garnered praise from Gramophone Magazine: “Ashworth and Jessica Petrus play and sing expressively and knowingly throughout.” This season, she will solo with Musicians of the Old Post Road, Emmanuel Music, and The Jameson Singers, and make appearances with Skylark Ensemble and Handel and Haydn Society.
An advocate for chamber music, Jessica Petrus is also the founder of Skylark Spotlight Series, a recital series in its second season that highlights the individual chamber talents of Skylark musicians in the greater Boston area. She is also a passionate teacher and teaches voice privately to students locally and has taught voice at Choate Rosemary Hall and with the Yale Glee Club.
Jessica Petrus is also Dual-Certified Postpartum Doula (Birth In The Know) and Pediatric Sleep Consultant (Center For Pediatric Sleep Management. She is Owner of Burgeoning Bud Postpartum Care and MassHealth Credentialed Doula Provider. When not singing, she can be found trying out a new recipe in her kitchen, or taking in New England's bountiful natural beauty with her husband (Evan Aird, the married on June 12, 2016) and baby boy. She currently lives in Natick, Massachusetts. |
