The German baritone, David Pichlmaier, started singing as a young boy with the Stuttgarter Hymnus-Chorknaben. Later he began his formal music education in Stuttgart, where he studied voice with Wayne Long and Carl Davis. He continued his vocal studies in Weimar where he took lessons from Mario Hoff. Upon graduation he became a member of the International Opera Studio in Cologne. He is an exhibitioner of various foundations including the Richard Wagner Society, and a winner of several international singing competitions, among them 2011 Thomas Quasthoffs’ “Das Lied” in Berlin and Brahms-Competition" in Pörtschach/Austria.
David Pichlmaier has sung in many of Germany’s leading opera houses including Oper Cologne, Oper Bremen, Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar, Staatstheater Karlsruhe, and the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Düsseldorf. He is also well known as a Lied and Concert-singer. So he was guest at several important concert houses like Kölner Philharmonie, Liederhalle Stuttgart, Musikverein Wien, Berliner Philharmonie und Laeiszhalle Hamburg.
Since 2008, David Pichlmaier has been a permanent member of the ensemble at the Staatstheater Darmstadt where highlights of his last seasons include Wolfgang Rihm's Jakob Lenz, Ulisse in Monteverdi's Il ritorno d’Ulisse and Manfred Gurlitt's Wozzeck. This season he had great success as Guglielmo in W.A. Mozart's Cosi fan tutte. Plans for future seasons include Papageno in W.A. Mozart Die Zauberflöte as well as Eisenstein in Fledermaus. He has performed with notable conductors including Constantin Trinks, Helmuth Rilling, Markus Stenz, Will Humburg and Markus Stenz |
