The Canadian composer, tenor singer and choir director, Nicholas Piper, completed his Bachelor of Music degree in Composition and Musicology from Carleton University (2007); and his Master of Music degree in Musical Composition from the University of Victoria (2010), studying with Dániel Biró. His graduating work, Locus Iste, won first prize in the 2010 SOCAN Awards for Young Composers.
Nicholas Piper's compositions have been performed across Canada: in Montréal by Voces Boreales, Vancouver by Musica Intima, Edmonton by Pro Coro Canada, and in Ottawa by the Cantiamo Girls' Choir, Capital Chamber Choir, Christ Church Cathedral Girls' Choir and Ottawa Bach Choir. An award-winning composer, his work has been supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, the City of Ottawa and SSHRC. He is Director of Music at All Saints' Anglican Church, Sandy Hill, and President of the Ottawa New Music Creators. He is a member of Ottawa Bach Choir (Director: Lisette Canton) singing tenor. He currently lives in Victoria, British Columbia. |
