Judith Pranger (Soprano)

Born: July 7, 1978 - Groningen, the Netherlands

The Dutch soprano, Juditha Pranger, was raised in a musical family, and started singing at a young age. First in different choirs, from the age of 16 also as a soloist. She studied at the at the Prins Claus Conservatorium in Groningen (1996-1999); the Koninklijk Conservatorium - Royal Conservatoire Den Haag (2002-2003); and at Schoevers College (2002-2004) with Sasja Hunnego, Wout Oosterkamp and Manon Heijne. Currently (as of 2019) she is technically assisted by the leading vocal coaches Margreet Honig and Ira Siff.

As a freelance singer, Juditha Pranger was associated with the Nederlands Kamerkoor (since 2015), Cappella Amsterdam (since September 2016); De Nederlandse Bachvereniging (November 2014-September 2018); Bachkoor Holland in Leiden (2002-December 2017; also Artistic Assistant: July 2012-September 2018); Zzp-er in Groningen (since January 2013); and Orpheus Vokalensemble (Germany) and in that capacity she worked with conductors such as Jaap van Zweden, Jan Willem de Vriend, Roy Goodman, Richard Egarr, Ton Koopman, Jos van Veldhoven, Michael Alber, Gijs Leenaars and Daniel Reuss.

For years, Juditha Pranger, as an ensemble singer, immersed herself mainly in the Baroque repertoire and sang the Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244), Johannes-Passion (BWV 245), Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248), cantatas, the masses and motets by J.S. Bach, works by Dietrich Buxtehude, Nicolaus Bruhns, Franz Tunder, George Frideric Handel, etc. As a soloist she sang works such as Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, Berlioz' Les Nuits d'Eté, Johannes Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem, J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor (BWV 232), Felix Mendelssohn's Elias, W.A. Mozart's Requiem, G.F. Handel's Dixit Dominus.

Although she is fond of ensemble singing, Juditha Pranger came to the realization - during various master-classes - that in addition to her first great love, ensemble singing, her voice fits even more into the (highly) romantic solo and opera repertoire. She has a great love for works by Gustav Mahler, J. Brahms, R. Wagner and R. Strauss. In 2018 she had her opera debut and she was seen and heard in the successful opera production Hamlet (Ambroise omas) with the opera company Opera2Day in a tour of 25 performances through the Netherlands and Belgium. She currently lives in Groningen, the Netherlands.
