The Hungarian mezzo-soprano, Eszter Puskás, began his primary school years in the Hungarian Radio Children's Choir (Magyar Rádió Gyermekkórusában), then graduated from the Kodály Zoltán Hungarian Choir School (Kodály Zoltán Magyar Kórusiskolában). Her attempts as a chamber singer are also linked to this period, in the Dowland ensemble, which was then founded, and later in the Discantus ensemble. She graduated from ELTE in the field of singing-music-choir conducting, and then obtained a diploma in private singing at the Bartók Béla Institute of Music of the University of Miskolc (Miskolci Egyetem Bartók Béla Zeneművészeti Intézetében).
Eszter Puskás has been singing in the CantuS CorvinuS Ensemble (Director: Géza Klembala) since 1998, and has been a member of the Purcell Choir (Director: György Vashegyi), since 1997. She participated in the master-classes of István Gáti, Júlia Hamari and Walter C. Moore. In 1996 and 1999, she won the Kodály Zoltán Special Prize and then the 1st Prize of the National Ádám Jenő Song Competition. As a beginning singer, she won the Fischer Annie Scholarship from 2004 to 2006. She currently sings in the National Choir, where she also occasionally performs as a soloist. As a member of the Tóth Aladár Opera Studio, she has performed mezzo roles in several operas.
Eszter Puskás' certain knowledge of style makes her credible in interpreting almost all musical genres. Her full, bright, warm-colored voice is truly fulfilled primarily in the works of the Baroque masters. Although she is better known as a soloist of oratorio works, she also sings contemporary works. She has worked as a soloist with, among others, Mátyás Antál, György Vashegyi, Zsolt Hamar, Gergelly Ménesi, Tamás Pál, as well as the MÁV Symphony Orchestra, the Arcangelo and Musica Profana Chamber Ensembles, etc. She currently lives in Budapest, Hungary. |
