The French tenor, Antonin Rondepierre, began singing at the age of 9 at the Maîtrise de Paris, under the direction of Patrick Marco. He studied choral conducting with Marianne Guengard before entering the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles (CMBV) in 2016, where he perfected his skills in the 17th-century French repertoire under the direction of Olivier Schneebeli. From 2018 on, he studied at the CNSM with Isabelle Guillaud.
Praised for his ‘musical intelligence’, ‘delicate, poetic phrasing’ and ‘full, round timbre’ (Classical Concert, Forum Opéra), Antonin Rondepierre is considered a rising star of the early music scene. A recent graduate of the Centre de Music Baroque Versailles, his talent has been recognised early on by conductors such as Olivier Schneebeli, Sebastien Daucé, Raphaël Pichon, and Gaetan Jarry. He regularly performs as a soloist with period ensembles such as Ensemble Pygmalion (Director: Raphaël Pichon), Les Talens Lyriques (Director: Christophe Rousset), and Marguerite Louise. In 2022, he was awarded two prizes at the Concours international de la Mélodie in Gordes. During the 2023-2024 season, he takes part in the Young Artists Programme of the Académie Jaroussky. He is a finalist of the 2023 Cesti Competition, where he won an engagement prize from the Festival della Valle d'Itria.
Recently, Antonin Rondepierre has been taking on more important parts of the Baroque repertoire: he will sing the title role of Télémaque in Destouches’ Télémaque et Calypso with ensemble Les Ombres at the Festival d’Ambronay. Last season he already sang the title role of Charpentier’s Actéon at the Opéra de Rennes, and the medium sized role of Joabel in Charpentier’s David et Jonathas with Marguerite Louise led by Gaétan Jarry in Versailles and Potsdam. Furthermore, he will perform Campra’s Requiem with Les Arts Florissants led by William Christie, the role of Triton in Campra’s Iphigénie en Tauride with Le Concert Spirituel led by Hervé Niquet, Phantase in Lully’s Atys with Les Talens Lyriques led by Christophe Rousset, Morphée + Dieu de fleuve + Zéphyr in Lully’s Atys with Les Ambassadeurs - La Grande Écurie led by Alexis Kossenko, before returning to the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence for a new project with Raphaël Pichon.
Highlights of the last two seasons include his debut at Opéra national du Rhin in the roles of Soldato/Familgiare 2 in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea, a tour performing cantatas by J.S. Bach and Dietrich Buxtehude with Ensemble Pygmalion, his debut at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence as a soloist in Combattimento, The Black Swan Theory (with music by Monteverdi, Rossi and Cavalli), Monteverdi’s Orfeo (title role) in the audiovisual production Orfeo 5063 with Les Paladins and Jérôme Correas at the Opera de Massy. Antonin Rondepierre has taken part in many productions of Ensemble Correspondances: Locke’s Cupid and Death, Charpentier’s Les plaisirs de Versailles and Te Deum and Messe de minuit pour Noël, and D. Buxtehude's Membra Jesu Nostri.
His discography includes Pierre Robert's Grands Motets with the CMBV under the direction of Olivier Schneebeli (Label CVS, 2020), an airs de cour album "Je m’abandonne à vous: with Marc Mauillon and Céline Scheen (Harmonia Mundi, 2021), De Lalande’s Grands Motets with Ensemble Correspondances (Harmonia Mundi, 2022), and Monteverdi’s Vespro della Beata Vergine with Ensemble Pygmalion (Harmonia Mundi, 2023). |
