The English tenor, Edward Ross, his musical education at the London Oratory School. He sang there with the choir conducted by Mike McCarthy, which resulted in international attention. This includes the soundtrack to The Lord of the Rings where he sings Howard Shore's In Dreams and his solo performance in two performances of Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms, in Vienna and Slovenia, under Leonard Slatkin. Later he studied with Simon de Souza in the Junior Section of the Royal Academy of Music and became a tenor in the choir of St George's Cathedral in Southwark. He continued his studies at the Royal College of Music and then returned to the Royal Academy to study with Neil Mackie (since 2016).
Performing On Wenlock Edge by Ralph Vaughan Williams and A Young Man's Exhortation by Gerald Finzi, Edward Ross sang as a member of the Academy Song Circle, a small group of the Royal Academy's most talented performers, and regularly in the Kohn Foundation Bach Cantata Series at the Royal Academy of Music.
As a soloist, Edward Ross was supported by “Josephine Baker Trust” in the UK. He now performs regularly with the Monteverdi Choir (Director: John Eliot Gardiner), The Marian Consort (Director: Rory McCleery) and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. In 2018 he toured throughout Europe and America. He stood out for his performances of J.S. Bach's music and was often heard as the Evangelist in e.g. St. John Passion (BWV 245) in Lincoln Cathedral, Winchester Cathedral and with the Overbacher Kammerchor in Germany. Most recently he sang J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor (BWV 232) with the Academy of Ancient Music and Cambridge Chorale and joined the Monteverdi Choir on their tour with Berlioz's Benvenuto Cellini at the BBC Proms (2019). |
