The American soprano, Janet Ellen Ross, obtained her Bachlor of Music degree in Piano Performance (1998-2002), her B.S.O.F. degree in Flute & Music Pedagogy for Children (1998-2002), and her Master of Music degree in Piano Performance (2002-2004) from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music where she was named Chancellor’s Scholar (2001), an award recognizing academic achievement and service to the school. She later obtained her Master of Educatuion degree in Elementary Education from University of Massachusetts Amherst (2005-2006). As a pianist, she won myriad solo and concerto competitions, including the concerto competition, Schubert/Brahms Category, and Grand Prize in the Eastman School of Music’s Young Artists International Competition. She performed in recital at The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, as the recipient of the VSAArts Panasonic Young Soloists Award.
Janet Ross sings mostly with the Handel and Haydn Society, Emmanuel Music, Cantata Singers, the Indictus Project, Church of the Redeemer-Chestnut Hill. In 2021, she participated in the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute and was excited to be a vocal fellow with the American Bach Soloists until the program was canceled due to COVID in both 2020 and 2021. Pre-pandemic, she performed with the Skylark Vocal Ensemble and was a soloist in Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 with Musica Sacra.
Janet Ross teaches piano and voice lessons and co-teaches children’s choirs at Shady Hill School in Cambridge and Church of the Redeemer in Chestnut Hill (since January 2002), works for the Shady Hill School Teacher Training Center (since October 2007), and volunteers for the House Rabbit Network. She also serves on the Board of Trustees of Cantata Singers as the Chorus Vice President. |
