Alex Siegers (Alto)

Born: Port Macquarie, New South Wales, Australia

The Australian alto singer, music educator and Jazz performer, Alexandria (Alex) Sieges, graduated in 2017 from a Bachelor of Music and Arts, majoring in Jazz Performance, Asian Studies and Linguistics at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music (2012-2016). She later completed an appended Honours (February-November 2022). In 2011, while living in London, she sang regularly with the Choir of Southwark Cathedral. That year she was awarded a scholarship to study with Dame Emma Kirkby at the Dartington International Summer School. During her time in London, she studied jazz voice and improvisation under Brigitte Beraha and Lewis Riley.

Alex Sieges has amassed considerable experience as an educator and performer across jazz, sacred, classical and pop genres with leading musicians throughout Australia. Since 2012, she has been a member of the Choir of St James' King Street (April 2013-April 2024), Sydney Chamber Choir and Sydney Philharmonia Choirs. In 2013 she recorded a CD of Johannes Brahms' Requiem with the Choir of St James' King Street and in 2014 toured with them to Singapore to perform in the international sacred music festival, Tapestry. She has appeared as a guest artist with the Song Company (June 2017-June 2024), Cantillation, Consort of Melbourne, Choir of St. Mary’s Cathedral, Sydney Chamber Choir, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs, Luminescence Chamber Singers, Vocal Australia Singers, Australian Voices and Choir Lab. She has also performed and recorded with contemporary singer Bobby Fox at the annual Light the Night benefit concert, and various groups including The Gold Project and her own a cappella ensemble The Sexy Pitches.

Alex Sieges has also worked in a diverse range of companies gaining experience in arts administration, market management and project management. She has been a volunteer National Manager at Vocal Australia since 2012, a position which involves a huge amount of database management, social media management and event management. She has assisted in the production of 2 national tours of the annual AUSACA a cappella competition and GetVocal Festival. She also completed a 6 month internship at the Song Company offices in Sydney further developing these skills (February-July 2013). She previously worked as a Competitor Analyst at Allianz Australia (December 2014-September 2015), completing projects on the digital space and website optimisation. She also worked as Marketing and Digital Coordinator at Sydney Youth Orchestras (February 2017-March 2019).

Alex Sieges has also performed and recorded with contemporary musicians including Felix Riebl, Ollie McGill, Julia Jacklin, Alex The Astronaut, Bobby Fox, Liz Hughes, Goldheist, Jessica O’Donoghue, Gian Slater and as a jazz vocalist and looping artist in her own right at events and festivals including Beams Arts Festival; UCSB Amplified, Santa Barbara; Light The Night; Singing At The House; Get Vocal Festival; and All About Women. In 2024 she released her debut album ‘From Here’ on the ABC Jazz label, featuring a collection of Australian jazz standards with Andrew Dickeson, Aaron Blakey and Jacob Graham.

In the field of education, Alex Sieges was Music Teacher Assistant at South Hampstead High School (January-December 2011), and held the lead role in Da Vinci’s Apprentice for Musica Viva in Schools (March 2019-April 2024). Currently she is a Casual Academic at Sydney Conservatorium of Music (since October 2021). She currently lives in Los Angeles, California, where she sings also at Saint James' in-the-City Episcopal Church (since July 2024).
