The Canadian mezzo-soprano and music educator, Heather Lynn Smith, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance & Mathematics from the Crane School of Music at State University of New York College at Potsdam (2001-2005); and her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Ottawa (2017-2019).
Heather Lynn Smith is a music educator passionate about sharing the joy and deep satisfaction of making music collaboratively. She is also a professional choral singer with particular experience in Early Music. While taking time to stay home with her two children, she ran a private studio offering the exceptional Music for Young Children© program (MUC - Music for Young Children: June 2006-June 2017), reaching over 250 children over the years.
Heather Lynn Smith thrilled that her professional pursuits include a broad range of musical styles and age groups. She teaches an elementary music program she co-developed for St. Timothy’s Classical Academy based on Classical Western Choral music. She is Artistic Director of the Nepean Songsters, an engaging choir for older adults, performing monthly at seniors’ residences a repertoire of popular songs from days gone by. She also conducts the Kanata Baptist Church Choir and engages in the music ministry there in various ways.
In her many years as a professional choral singer in Canada, Heather Lynn Smith has been thrilled to perform with incredible musicians via organizations such as the Theatre of Early Music (Director: Daniel Taylor), La Chapelle de Québec / Les Violons du Roy (Director: Bernard Labadie), and Ottavoci. As a long time chorister in the Juno Award winning Ottawa Bach Choir (since September 2007; Director: Lisette Canton), she has enjoyed performing in spectacular venues around the world, including Carnegie Hall, J.S. Bach's Thomaskirche in Leipzig (June 2022), Notre-Dame de Paris, St Paul’s Cathedral in London, and the Beijing National Centre for the Performing Arts.
In all endeavours, Heather Lynn Smith is captivated by the power of building harmony, be it musical, within the individual or between individuals and communities; all integral parts of the beautiful vision of the Cantiamo Choirs of Ottawa. She currently lives in Ottawa, Ontario. |
