The Canadian soprano, Paulina Swierszek, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York under the tutelage of Rita Shane, and has remained in Rochester to pursue her Master of Music degree in Voice Performance and Literature (2014-2016). She currently studies with Dr. Constance Haas.
Paulina Swierszek is known for her impressive and adventurous musicianship and her electric stage presence. She has been featured in recital by the Canadian Chopin Festival, Scarborough Philharmonic Orchestra, Toronto Sinfonietta and Annex Singers. She has appeared with many of Eastman's premiere ensembles, including the Eastman School Symphony Orchestra, the Ossia New Music Ensemble, the Collegium Musicum, and the Eastman Repertory Singers.
Paulina Swierszek has been the recipient of various awards, including the Howard Hansen and Charles W. Kennett scholarships as well as the 2013 Ornest Award at the Eastman School of Music, and is a winner of both the Canadian Music Competition and the Kiwanis Festival in Canada. Paulina was most recently the winner of the Annabel Muenter Vocal Prize in the 2014 Friends of Eastman Opera Competition and was awarded the Honorable Mention Prize by Dawn Upshaw in the 2014 Jessie Kneisel Lieder Competition.
Paulina Swierszek was a Fellow in the Professional Program at SongFest in Los Angeles, California in Summer 2014. Among others, she worked closely with soprano Lucy Shelton and was featured on a series of contemporary music concerts, where she performed works by George Rochberg, Ernst Bacon and Lori Laitman, as well as excerpts from Elliott Carter's cycle Of Challenge and Of Love. She has performed in master-classes with Libby Larsen, Margo Garrett, Martin Katz, Suzanne Mentzer, Graham Johnson and Roger Vignoles.
Paulina has performed the roles of Dorabella in W.A. Mozart's Cosi fan tutte, Venus, Cephise and Zayde in Campra's L'europe galante, the New Prioress in Francis Poulenc's The Dialogues of the Carmelites and Angelica in Orlando with the Eastman Opera Theater. Other roles include Madame Herz in W.A. Mozart's Die Schauspieldirektor, Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Cleopatra in George Frideric Handel's Giulio Cesare in Egitto, Countess Almaviva in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro and Pamina in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte.
Recent performances include appearances as the soprano soloist in F. Poulenc's Gloria, in Haydn's Nelson Mass, and in numerous cantats by J.S. Bach, both in Rochester, New York and Toronto, Canada. Other upcoming performances include J.S. Bach's B-Minor Mass (BWV 232), and Arnold Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire. She currently lives in Rochester, New York. |
