The English soprano, Katy Tansey, read music at Selwyn College, Cambridge and studied at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, where she won a scholarship to study Russian song at the Britten-Pears School with Galina Vishnevskaya, with whom she continued to study privately.
Katy Tansey's operatic experience includes a European tour covering the role of Marzelline in L.v. Beethoven's Leonore for Sir John Eliot Gardiner; Fiordiligi in W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte at the Snape Proms under Tadaaki Otaka and British tours performing Tatyana in Eugene Onegin and Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte for Pimlico Opera. Other roles include Venus in Venus and Adonis, Dido in Dido and Aeneas, Timante in George Frideric Handel's Floridante, Oriana in G.F. Handel's Amadigi, Angelica in G.F. Handel's Orlando, Elisetta in D. Cimarosa's II Matrimonio Segreto, Madam Silberklang in W.A. Mozart's Der Schauspieldirektor, Hero in H. Berlioz' Beatrice et Benedict, Marguerite in Charles Gounod's Faust, Anna Gomez in G.C. Menotti's The Consul.
Katy Tansey appears in recital and concert throughout the UK and recent concert engagements have included G.F. Handel's Solomon with the Northern Sinfonia in York Minster, W.A. Mozart's C Minor Mass in St John's Smith Square, Rossini's Stabat Mater and Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 2 in Guildford Cathedral, Orffs Carmina Burana and Verdi's Requiem in St David's Cathedral Festivals, Verdi's Requiem in Westminster Abbey and Strauss' Four Last Songs in St Paul's Covent Garden. She is a member of Aurora Nova, UK's pre-eminent all-female professional choir. |
