The German baritone, Leon Tchakachow, received his first musical training and in the Speyerer Domchor and other ensembles of the Dommusik Speyer. This experience gives rise to a career based primarily on the oratorio repertoire. After graduating in Music Education at the Studied at Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz (2015-2019), he began studying singing at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt (since October 2019), for his Bachleor of Music degree under the guidance of Professor Thilo Dahlmann and continued for his Master of Music degree with Professor Michelle Breedt. In addition to his academic training, he also attended master-classes and advanced courses with Brigitte Fassbaender, Michael Volle, Claudia Eder, David Jones, Hans Christoph Begemann, Götz Payer, and many other personalities in the current European musical scene. While on the HfM in Mainz’s Barock Vokal - programme of excellence, he delved into historically correct methods of performing with people including Andreas Scholl, Sigiswald Kuijken and Michael Schneider. Winner of multiple scholarships, he has enjoyed the support and promotion of the Richard-Wagner-Verbandes Frankfurt and has been selected by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research for the Deutschlandstipendium.
After appearing at the Oper Frankfurt alternately as Leporello and in the title role in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni in a children's production, Leon Tchakachow made his professional debut on the main stage of this theater in the 2021-2022 season as Nicola in Umberto Giordano's Fedora. From then on, he regularly collaborates with the Oper Frankfurt, playing the Servant in R. Strauss' Capriccio and then the Flemish Deputy in Verdi's Don Carlo (2022) and again Nicola in Fedora. Soon he was again a soloist at the Hessisches Staatstheater in Wiesbaden, in the role of the Flemish Deputy. In 2023, he made his debut at the Staatstheater Darmstadt as Rocco in Thierry Tidrow's youth opera Persona. In December 2023, he finally performed as Aeneas in H. Purcell's Dido and Aeneas at the Frankfurter Gallustheater.
In the 2024-2025 season, Leon Tchakachow will perform at the Oper Frankfurt 2nd Orderly and a Journalist / Clown in new productions in Henze's Der Prinz von Homburg and and Alban Berg's Lulu, which are followed by a Costume Seller in the first revival of the crazy production of Nielsen's Maskerade. At the Staatstheater Darmstadt, he will perform the roles of King/Snake in the German premiere of Valtinoni's Der Kleine Prinz. He has already performed oratorio roles at Speyerer Dom, Limburger Dom, Abteikirche Maria Laach, and Frankfurter Katharinenkirche, among others. In spring 2024, he accepted an invitation to sing the role of Christ and the bass arias in J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion BWV 245 in Modena.
As a vocal coach, Leon Tchakachow supervises the young male voices of the Mainzer Domchore. He currenty lives in Frankfurt, Germany. |
