Sabah Teixeira (Bass-Baritone)

Born: Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil

The Brazilin bass-baritone, Sabah Teixeira, graduated in singing from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) (1996-2000), under the guidance of Elke Beatriz Riedel. At that institution, he taught music history, musical perception, voice physiology, and singing from 2001 to 2002. Also in Natal, he was a member of the Coral Canto do Povo (Director: Maestro Monsignor Pedro Ferreira), and the Madrigal da UFRN (Director: Maestro André Luiz Muniz Oliveira).

As a soloist, Sabah Teixeira sang Claudio Monteverdi's Vespro della Beata Vergine SV 206 by with the Orquestra Sinfônica Municipal de São Paulo (conducted by Maestro Roberto Minczuk), André Campra's Missa de Réquiem with the Audi Cœlum (conducted by Maestro Roberto Rodrigues), and George Frideric Handel's cantata Apollo e Daphne HWV 122 with the Orquestra do Theatro São Pedro (conducted by Maestro Luís Otávio Santos). With the traditional Camerata Antiqua de Curitiba, he performed J.S. Bach's Cantata BWV 36 and Magnificat in D major BWV 243, conducted by Celso Antunes. With the Baroque Troupe in Vitória (ES) and with the Ensemble Vocal Cantamus in Recife and Olinda (PE), he performed Jesus in J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion BWV 245.

With the Osesp orchestra, Sabah Teixeira performed as a soloist in M.-A. Charpentier's Te Deum in D Major H. 146, in W.A. Mozart's Great Mass in C Minor K. 427, under the baton of the great contralto and French conductor Nathalie Stutzmann, as well as in J.S. Bach's Cantatas BWV 61, BWV 62, BWV 129, BWV 203, 214, Johannes-Passion BWV 245, Cantata BWV 10, and Magnificat in D major BWV 243 - the last two under the baton of Masaaki Suzuki, one of the world's leading experts on the work of the German master.

Sabah Teixeira participated with the Osesp (Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo) in the CD "Almeida Prado: Sinfonia dos Orixás" (Naxos, 2022), conducted by Neil Thomson, performing the baritone solo in Almeida Prado's "Pequenos Funerais Cantantes ao Poeta Carlos Maria de Araújo", an album awarded the Concerto Prize - Audience Vote, as best CD of 2023.

Sabah Teixeira joined the Coro da Osesp in 2002. His favorite works are Passions and cantatas by J.S. Bach. Of the many moments with the Coro da Osesp, he recalls with emotion his debut, when he sang the madrigal Barca di Venetia per Padova Op. 12, by Adriano Banchieri, and also the unforgettable performance of J.S. Bach's the Mass in B minor BWV 232 under the baton of Claus Peter Flor, in September 2007. He currently lives in São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil.
