The New Zealander soprano and music teacher, Amy Louise Kate Thomas, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Performance Music with 1st Class Honours from Waikato University (2013-2016). In 2016, she also completed a Graduate Certificate in Theatre Studies. Amy is the recipient of the Graham Music Scholarship (2014), Norah Howell Academic Excellence in music (2015), Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship (2016) and the Dame Malvina Major Arts Excellence Award (2016). She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree with Diploma of Education also from Waikato University. Currently she is Doctorate of Musical Arts (DMA) candidate at Waikato University, under the suopervision of Dr. Rachael Griffiths-Hughes and Prof. Martin Lodge (since 2018; expecting graduaion: 2024). Her thesis: "Eighteenth-century solo soprano cantatas: A study of Christoph Graupner's (1683-1760) style and contribution to this genre".
Amy Thomas sings regularly soprano parts with the Baroque chamber group Vox Baroque (Director: Rachael Griffiths-Hughes) mostly at St Peter's Cathedal, Hamilton, Waikato. In December 2020, May 2021 and February 2022, she sang with them Solo Soprano cantatas of Christoph Graupner. She is also a NZ trained classroom music teacher. |
