The American soprano, Kaci Timons, has been singing and performing since she was three years old. She graduated from Sam Houston State University in 2006 with a degree in psychology and a minor in music. She decided to study music when her father passed away in her senior year at Sam Houston. She was a full-time social worker (Coordinator of Children's Ministry and Music at Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church in Houston) when she started at University of St. Thomas (UST) in Houston. She is a Master in Liberal Arts in Music student in her final year at the UST. She has rediscovered her zeal for performing music and motivating a new wave of singers through her connection with faculty and staff in the Music Department.
Kaci Timons values the close, mentor relationships that the small UST music program facilitates. Also, she said the students learn from each other. Her first performance at UST was on the anniversary of her father’s passing. She sang a piece about the love between a father and a daughter. She said she felt like she was taking him on stage with her, and that feeling gave her peace. Since her first performance, she has participated in four Opera Workshop programs, eight concerts and three pop shows. Dr. Brady Knapp, head of choral and vocal studies at UST, has coached Timmons since her time at Sam Houston. The music curriculum, with Knapp’s private vocal lessons, includes courses on diction for singers, vocal pedagogy and art song literature. Guided by Knapp, she is driven to empower and mentor aspiring singers. Timmons leads the children’s choir at Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church in Houston, where Knapp is the co-director of music.
Kaci Timons is a member of Bach Society Houston (Director: Rick Erickson). |
