The German contralto, Anna-Maria Torkel, studied singing at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg with Professor Geert Smits and was in the Lied class of Professor Burkhard Kehring. In 2012, she received the Brahms Stipendium from the Johannes Brahms Gesellschaft Hamburg. She has been a scholarship holder of the Franz-Wirth Gedächtnis-Stiftung since 2013 and won 2nd Prize at the Gustav Mahler Wettbewerb in 2014.
Anna-Maria Torkel has worked with renowned conductors such as Thomas Hengelbrock, Gustaf Sjökvist, Peter Dijkstra, Markus Poschner and engagements have taken her to renowned concert halls such as the Laieszhalle Hamburg, Glocke in Bremen, Berwaldhallen in Stockholm, Pantheon in Rome and many more.
At the Hamburgische Staatsoper, Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Theater Bremen and the Theater Kiel, Theater Kiel e has performed roles such as Berta in Rossini's Barbier di Siviglia, Hänsel in Engelbert Humperdinck's opera Hänsel und Gretel, the 3rd Lady in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Nancy in Flotow's Martha. She played Lucy in Bertolt Brecht's Threepenny Opera at the Thalia Theater Hamburg and has been a permanent member of the NDR Vokalensemble since August 2017. She currently lives in Hamburg, Germany. |
