The Singaporean counter-tenor, Chan Wei En (曾伟恩), studied in Singapore wiith Toh Ban Sheng and Tay Cheng-Jim. He was a recipient of Ithaca College’s Flora Brown merit scholarship and is a recipient of the NEC Scholarship. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Ithaca College in New York, studying with Carol McAmis. He is currently completing his Master of Music degree at the New England Conservatory in Boston, he studies with Dr. Ian Howell. He has been a winner and finalist at various vocal competitions in New York and was awarded the Ernst Bacon Prize for “Outstanding Performance of an American Song” at the 38th Annual Competition for Singers, organised by Civic Morning Musicals.
Prior to beginning studies in the USA, Chan Wei En was an active member of Hallelujah Oratorio Society, Amoris Singers and the Singapore Armed Forces Band. He has sung in concerts internationally, and highlights include the alto solos in J.S. Bach's B minor mass (BWV 232) with the American Bach Soloists (Director: Jeffrey Thomas) and Malaysia Bach Festival, George Frideric Handel's Messiah with MIT Concert Choir, Haydn's Mass in Time of War with RICCO, Carmina Burana with Cayuga Chamber Orchestra and Haydn’s Nelson Mass with ATCECM, Toronto. He currently lives in Boston, Massachusetts. |
