The Chilean bass, Javier Hiram Weibel Hormázabal, began his musical training at the early age of 13 with private teachers. In 1993 he entered the Universidad Metropolitana de Ciencias de la Educación (UMCE), graduating with the academic degree of Bachelor of Music Education with a mention in Instrumental Ensemble Conducting and specialization in Voice Education (1993-1998), obtaining the title of Professor of Musical Education. with maximum distinction. Then, in 1999, he entered the Lyric Singing Course at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (IMUC), under the guidance of Maestro Lucia Gana (1999-2000), continuing his studies at the Facultad de Artes de la Universidad de Chile, with Maestro Fernando Lara (2001-2006).
As a soloist, Javier Weibel has participated in national productions of operas, selections of musicals, anthologies and complete Zarzuelas, performing in the Teatros Municipales de Santiago, Las Condes, Temuco, Talca, Valparaíso, Viña del Mar and Antofagasta; in the Semanas Musicales de Frutillar, Concón and Reñaca; for cultural corporations, private companies, municipalities, foundations and universities.
In 2011, as a soloist, Javier Weibel went on tour to the cities of Osorno, Puerto Montt and Castro, invited by the Universidad de los Lagos to perform W.A. Mozart's Requiem; returning in 2012 for stagings of L.v. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 and Orff's Carmina Burana; The same year he made his debut at the ÓperaUC in the national premiere of Le Convienze ed Inconvenienze Teatrali by Donozetti, in the role of Mamma Agata, under the direction of Miryam Singer.
Likewise, Javier Weibel has sung with the Coro Profesional del Teatro Municipal de Santiago in the operas Don Carlo, Aida and Nabucco by Verdi, W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Dmitri Shostakovich's Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk,
Puccini's Turandot, Wagner's Parsifal, Benjamin Britten's Billy Budd (premiere in Chile); and Orff's Carmina Burana, L.v. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 and W.A. Mozart's Requiem, and other choral symphonic works.
In pedagogy, for more than a decade Javier Weibel was a teacher at the Instituto Artístico de la Facultad de Artes de la Universidad de Chile (March 2000-May 2012), teaching classes in Theory and Solfeggio, Aesthetics, Composition, Interpretation and Lyric Singing. He currently lives in Santiago, Chile. |
