The Canadian mezzo-soprano, Karen (Scovell) Weigold, studied at Cambrian College in Sudbury, with a major in Vocal Performance and a minor in Piano Studies
After her studies, Karen Weigold moved back to the Greater Toronto Area to begin her music career and became an established and versatile singer. With a background in dramatic arts and dance, she has had many opportunities to perform with ensembles and organizations throughout the city, including Soundstreams, Elmer Iseler Singers, Univox Choir of Toronto, and Countermeasure. She has shared the stage with artists like Jackie Richardson, Jully Black, Joe Sealy, Molly Johnson, Nikki Yanovsky, and opera star Kathleen Battle; she is a founding member of the a cappella group Catch-Phrase Quartet, and has lent her voice to many EP and LP recordings and live performances for local Toronto artists such as Jeremy Dutcher, Julian Taylor, and Secret Broadcast. She is a section lead and a featured soloist in J.S. Bach's Cantata Series Church of the Redeemer: Bach Vespers, Toronto, and has been a featured soloist at Grace Church-on-the-Hill. She is a member of the Nathaniel Dett Chorale in Toronto (September 2001-June 2023) and since July 2022 also Artistic Administrator of the group. She was Soloist and Chorus Member of Durham Philharmonic Choir (April 2023-May 2024).
In addition to her busy performance schedule, Karen Weigold gives private vocal lessons and is working on various composition and arranging projects. She has been Music Teacher at Stagecoach Theatre Arts (Peterborough: April 2011-July 2016; Bowmanville: September 2012-July 2016). |
