Elisabeth Wimmer (Soprano)

Born: Austria

The Austrian soprano, Elisabeth Wimmer, studied musical drama (opera) at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien with Julia Bauer Huppmann and Reto Nickler, as well as Liedg and oratorio with Charles Spencer. A study visit to the Royal College of Music London with Janis Kelly was also a formative experience in her musical education. She received further impulses in master-classes and coaching from Kurt Widmer, Claudia Visca, Rosalind Plowright, Richard Trimborn and Brigitte Eisenfeld, among others. In 2009, the she was awarded the Kantor Prize of the Marienkirche in Husum. She is also a prize-winner of the Walter and Charlotte Hamel Foundation 2009, the Heinrich Strecker Competition for Wienerlied and Operetta 2009, the Gradus ad parnassum competition 2009, Musica Juventutis 2010, finalist at the International Carinthian Sparkasse Music Scholarship 2011 and prize-winner of the Masefield Scholarship of the Alfred Toepfer Foundation FVS 2015

From 2010 to 2015, Elisabeth Wimmer was engaged at the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar, where she performed the roles of Susanna in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, Musetta in La Boheme, Gretel in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel, Morgana in George Frideric Handel's Alcina, Hero in Bénedict et Beatrice, Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier, Pamina in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte celebrated great successes. She has been a freelance artist since autumn 2015 and is at home both on the concert stage and on the international opera stage. Despite her young age, she can already look back on a highly acclaimed concert career at home and abroad. Her engagements have taken her to Italy, the UK, Germany, Sweden, Spain and the USA, where she has performed with well-known concert partners such as Babette Hierholzer, Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, Staatskapelle Weimar, Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie, Jeunesse Orchester Wien, Ensemble Barucco, L'Orfeo Barockorchester, Harmony of Nations Baroque Orchestra, Camerata Salzburg and many others.

Upcoming projects include Haydn’s Creation at the Musikverein, the fourth part of the cycle “Böck ist Bruckner” at the Brucknerfest Linz 2021; J.S. Bach's cantatas under the direction of Alfredo Bernardini; G.F. Handel's Jephtha at Landestheater Vorarlberg, Bregenz (March-April 2022); J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) at Kirche St. Gallus, Kisslegg (April 2022); W.A. Mozart's Missa Brevis D-Dur KV 194 at St. Othmar, St. Gallen, Switzerland (April 2022).
