The Korean soprano, Ji Yoon [Korean: (윤지)], began her musical journey in South Korea, where she developed the foundational vocal technique that would later propel her to international stages. She studied at the Seoul National University of Arts (KNUA) in Seoul, a breeding ground for many of Korea’s top classical musicians. Like many aspiring opera singers, she moved to Europe to refine her craft, often participating in master-classes and advanced vocal programs to specialize in the European operatic tradition. She studied at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Mannheim (Class of 2019) and at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag (Class of 2024).
Ji Yoon has performed at Staatsoper Stuttgart (December 2015-March 2016) and at Bayreuther Festspiele (May 2018-August 2019). She is most recognized for her tenure as a soloist at the Mannheim National Theater (Nationaltheater Mannheim) in Germany, where she was a member of the ensemble (September 2016-2021). Her voice is characterized by its clarity and versatility, allowing her to tackle both lyrical and dramatic coloratura roles. Her repertoire spans from the Baroque era to contemporary works, with a strong focus on the classical and romantic periods: Significant operatic roles include: Gluck’s Alceste (the role of the Herald.); Berlioz’s La Damnation de Faust (as the "Celestial Voice"); Rossini’s Tancredi (the role of Roggiero). She was featured in the operatic adaptation of Björk’s Vespertine (as part of the Mannheim production), which was later released as a live album in 2019. She also performs occasionally in South Korea.
In addition, Ji Yoon is a member of Ensemble Correspondances (Director: Sébastien Daucé). |
