Johanna Zachhuber (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: June 1, ____ - Vienna, Austria

The Austrian mezzo-soprano singer, music therapist and singing teacher, Johanna Zachhuber, completed her vocal studies with Uta Schwabe and is moreover studying Baroque singing with Roberta Invernizzi at the Konservatorium Wien. She received her first musical impulses from Michael Nowak, additionally from Claudia Visca, Angelika Kirchschlager, Wolfgang Dosch, Klesie Kelly-Moog and Kai Wessel. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Pedagogy with Regine Köbler and a diploma degree in music therapy at the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Wien (MDW). She holds a merit-based scholarship of the said university as well as a scholarship of the Vita aktiva private foundation.

Johanna Zachhuber has already appeared in Leonard Bernstein's opera A quiet place, in the contemporary opera Der verschwundene Hochzeiter by Klaus Lang as well as in Angels in Amerika by Péter Eötvös and in various university productions such as The Medium by Gian Carlo Menotti or Der Opernball by Richard Heuberger.

Johanna Zachhuber is also very fond of the oratorio and concert genre and has thus been able to draw attention to herself performing in Leonard Bernstein's Mass in the Great Hall of the Wiener Konzerthaus and the oratorio San Giovanni di Nepomuceno by Nicola Porpora at the Wiener Konzerthaus within the Resonanzen Festival as well as in Gioachino Rossini’s Stabat Mater in the Freystätter Collegium in Nuremberg. What is more, she is in demand as soloist at masses, orchestral concerts and festivals (e.g. Musical sacra, Freystätter Musiktage, Musiksommer Bad Schallerbach). These engagements in the field of opera and concert have taken her, for instance, to the Kammeroper Wien (Neue Oper Wien), the Wiener Konzerthaus, the Palace of Arts in Budapest and to the Reichshof as part of the Bayreuther Festspiele.

Among the conductors Johanna Zachhuber has worked with are Dennis Russell Davis, Walter Kobéra, Erwin Ortner, Lazlo Gyüker, Alois Glaßner, Heinz Ferlesch, Johannes Hiemetsberger and Fritz Karl. As for orchestras, she has worked together with the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orchester Wiener Akademie, Vienna Jeunesse Orchestra and Upper Austrian Mozart Orchestra.

Since March 2020, Johanna Zachhuber has been a project associate at the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Wien and dedicates herself, amongst other things, to research on scleroderma and cystic fibrosis patients using the method of music therapeutic vocal intervention.
