History & Mission: |
Since 1946 in a three yearly rhythm, the large event with various themes to the life and work of J.S. Bach takes place in Schaffhausen.
One year after the end of World War II, future and music oriented people in the border and bridge town of Schaffhausen set a peace and forgiveness signal that was heard and celebrated. In the tradition of J.S. Bach and his musical message the International Bach society was founded. Since then it has been closely associated with the town of Schaffhausen and has hosted 31 Bach festivals.
Today the circle of artists is continuously widening and well-known names demonstrate that the international Bach-Elite reside in Schaffhausen.
At the same time the programme gains variety. Works of the Bach family, the J.S. Bach contemporaries and the later compositions of different artists with a certain Bach connection to Romanticism times, are incorporated into the programme. |
