Gottlob Friedrich Eichel (Bach's Pupil) |
Born: May 10, 1711 - Leipzig, Saxony, Germany
Died: August 1, 1773 - Leipzig, Saxony, Germany |
Gottlob Friedrich Eichel was born to Johann Andreas Eichel (scorer at Peterstor). He enrolled at the Thomaschule on July 7, 1726; studied there from 1726 to 1734, since April 14, 1722 already as external; and at Universität Leipzig from 1734. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. J.S. Bach reported (August 23, 1730) “incompetent, not at all musical”. After his studies, he became teacher for poor children in Leipzig (Almosenschule, 1735-1773). As the father-in-law of Gottlob Friedrich Wagner, he is Richard Wagner's great grandfather. |
