Erdmann Gottwald Petzold was born to Johann Christoph Petzold (1676-1743) and Sibylla Maria Spindler. He was an “Externus”at Thomasschule in Leipzig, with only evidence available for 1729-1730, but very likely remained “Externus” until 1733; then studied at Universität Leipzig in in 1733. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. J.S. Bach's report in Leipzig from May 9, 1729 indicates that in his vocal abilities he was rather proficient and had a good voice. After his studies, he became Pastor in Lengenfeld, Saxony. On June 18, 1743, he married Christina Rosina Wolff (b January 22, 1726, Lengenfeld) in Lengenfeld. They had one child: Auguste Henriette Petzold (1753-1819). |
