The Argentinean tenor, Eduardo Ayas, studied piano with Maestro Alberto Villanueva and singing with maestro Jascha Galperyn. In 1983, he graduated as a singer at the Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colon, were he studied.
Eduardo Ayas made his professional debut at Teatro Argentino de La Plata in 1985 in the role of Ferrando in Cosi fan tutte. In 1986, he made his debut at the Teatro Colón singing a little role of Mozo de la Faja in La Zapatera prodigiosa by Juan José Castro. In 1987, he was one of the winners at the Luciano Pavarotti's International Singing Competition in Philadelphia (USA).
In 1988, Eduardo Ayas made his European debut at Teatro dell'Opera di Roma as Elvino in La Sonnambula. In the same year, he was awarded by the Musical Critics of Argentina as the best lyrical singer in 1988. In 1989, he was awarded by the Association Verdiana de Buenos Aires as the best actual Argentinean tenor. Ayas sang the main tenor's roles of his pitch in Argentina and abroad. At the Teatro Colón, Ayas sang: The Makropoulos Affair in 1986, Fausto in 1990, Cenerentola in 1993, The tales of Hoffmann in 1994 and 2001, Madama Butterfly in 1994, Werther in 1995, La Bohème in 1995, Romeo and Juliet in 1996, Gianni Schichi, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, and Rigoletto in 1997, Don Pasquale, Fausto, Goyescas and Carmina Burana in 1998 and Il Turco in Italia in 2000. At the Teatro Argentino de La Plata, Ayas sang: L'Italiana in Algeri in 1986, Madama Butterfly in 1989, La Bohème in 1990, Rigoletto in 1991, The Fishers of pearls in 1992, La Traviata in 1994, Lucia di Lammermoor in 1994, Il Barbiere di Siviglia in 1996, Manon in 1998. His repertoire included chamber music and concerts. At the Teatro Colón, Ayas sang Oedipus Rex by Igor Stravinsky in 1988, Les Noces by I. Stravinsky and Petite Messe Solennelle by Rossini in 1990, Coronation Mass and Requiem by Mozart in 1991 and Gustav Mahler’s Eighth Symphony in 1998.
At the Comunale di Bologna, Eduardo Ayas sang Persephone by I. Stravinsky, and also at the Reggio di Parma in 1990. L'Italiana in Algeri at the Teatro Nacional de Costa Rica in 1990, Il Barbiere di Siviglia at Opera di Roma in 1992, at the Teatro Municipal de Santiago de Chile he sang : L'elisir d'amore in 1996 and Don Pasquale in 1997. At the Teatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro, Ayas sang Il Barbiere in 1992. At the Solis de Montevideo, he sang La Bohème in 1994, L'elisir d'amore in 1995 and the Magic Flute in 1996. At Teatro del SODRE of Montevideo, Ayas sang Verdi's Requiem, La Cenerentola and Stabat Mater by Rossini in 1998. Ayas sang Verdi’s Requiem also at Reggio di Parma under Mº Romano Gandolfi conducting. In 2001 Ayas sang the role of Arturo Talbot in I Puritani by Bellini at the Teatro Avellaneda in Buenos Aires, in the original complete edition of this opera given for the first time in Argentina.
Eduardo Ayas was a brilliant “coloratura” tenor with an even register and could reach the highest notes in the tenor tessitura without problems. He was an excellent actor and a versatile artist. He sang in Italian Spanish, French, English, German, Russian and Czech. |
