The Hungarian sorano, Éva Bodrogi, received her Master's Degree in performance from the Vocal Department of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London as a student of Susan McCulloch, Emma Kirkby and Nancy Argenta, and from the Singing Teacher Department of the University of Miskolc, Hungary. After returning home she found what she had been looking for with Professor Katalin Schultz: her knowledge, expertise, and sincere love felt towards her pupils have been protecting Éva in her career ever since.
In 2000, while staying in London, ,Éva Bodrogi won second prize in the “German Song” Singing Competition. It was partly this prize that led her to singing several opera roles as a member of the Palladium Chamber Opera Company, such as a nymph in Hypolite et Aricie by Jean-Philippe Rameau, the leading roles of Actéon by Marc-Antoine Charpentier, Alcina by George Frideric Handel, Clarice in Il Mondo della luna by Joseph Haydn, and Juliet in I Capuletti e i Montecchi by Vincenzo Bellini.
In London Éva Bodrogi was given the honour to work together with William Christie, Christian Cirnyn, David Roblou and Catherine Mackintosh. After returning home she performed in several highly acclaimed concert halls of Hungary and Europe, such as the St. John's Smiths Square and the Barbican Hall in London, the Pierre Montfort de L' Amoury in France, the Concert Hall of the Zuiderpershuis in Antwerp and the Melk Abbey in Austria. She participated in the Ax-An-Provance Festival, the Brno International Music Festival, and the Bath International Music Festival.
Éva Bodrogi has co-operated with orchestras led by outstanding conductors. She has worked with Domonkos Héja, Márton Rácz, László Bartal, Géza Török, Imre Rohmann, László Tihanyi, Salamon Kamp, János Bali, László Gerhát, Soma Dinnyés, Zsuzsanna Gráf, Katalin Hegedűs Gönczy, and with such orchestras as the Musica Antiqua Austria, Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Weiner-Szász Chamber Symphony Orchestra, Gödöllő Symphonic Orchestra, Kecskemét Symphonic Orchestra, Ferenc Erkel Chamber Orchestra, Solamente Naturali, Collegium Marinum, Ensemble Philippe and Erdődy Chamber Orchestra.
Éva Bodrogi has made several CD recordings with the orchestras mentioned above for Hungaroton and Naxos. The recording of pieces by Hummel, conducted by Domonkos Héja, was awarded the Choc prize by the French magazine Le Monde de la Musique.
Éva Bodrogi held master-courses in vocal performance for 4 years at the Early Music Summer University in Tokaj, Hungary, together with her friend and colleague, Noémi Kiss. As a member of the Quadriga Trans Limites (with Noémi Kiss, Rita Papp and László Gerhát) she has performed numerous rare pieces of the vocal repertoire from the Baroque period till even the world of the Broadway.
Another important pillar of her musical career is the Barefoot Musicians ensemble founded with guitarist Katalin Koltai. Their international members aim to perform contemporary music from all over the world. They have premiered several musical pieces, some of which have been composed to our ensemble especially.
An outstanding example of her dedication to contemporary music is the contemporary docu-opera, Made in China with guitarist Kata Koltai and Jászai-awarded actress Annamária Láng, produced by the Krétakör Theatre, debuted in 2008, which has had over 40 performances in some renowned theatres of Hungary, such as the Vígszínház (Comedy Theatre), the Merlin Theatre and the Mu Theatre in Budapest, and the Gyula Castle Theatre. She also sang in the performance Pesti Esti with Eszter Csákányi, József Gyabronka, Zoltán Mucsi, Péter Scherer and Annamária Láng. |
