The German soprano, Sonja Bühler, began her musical education in the USA at in (Glassboro, New Jersey) studying voice performance with Professor Marian Stieber. A full tuition scholarship for the entire undergraduate studies was granted to her in her first semester. Already in her first year of stduies she was a member of the Rowan Opera Company and sang many roles in more than 12 different productions starting with Die Zauberflöte and finishing with her debut of the countess in Le nozze di Figaro by W.A. Mozart. She finished her studies in 2004 as the best graduate in fine and performing arts (music) and she was given the Ann B. Ward Medal for creative achievement in fine and performing arts. She completed her studies in Germany at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg with Professor Dorothea Wirtz and Towako Sato-Schöllhorn. She studied "Liedinterpretation" with Hans-Peter Müller and was a member of the Opera Company under direction of Gerd Heinz and Alexander Schulin. She performed roles such as the Sheperdess in l'enfant et les sortilèges by Ravel and Papagena in Die Zauberflöte by W.A. Mozart. She participated in several master-classes taught by KS Gundula Janowitz, Margreet Honig, Klesie Kelly, Wolfram Rieger. Private studies with Profesor Beata Heuer-Christen, Sylvia Koncza and Sibylla Rubens complete her education. Since 2012 she studies her concert repertoire and opera roles with Stefan Haselhoff in Basel.
In 2009-2010 season Sonja Bühler sang the role of Bathseba in the premier of the opera "King David" by Uros Rojko (stage directed by Marc Günther) in the Theater Marienbad in Freiburg, Germany and in Ljubljana, Slovenia. She gave her debut as Vespetta in the opera Pimpinone by Georg Philipp Telemann, stage directed by Daniel Klumpp and conducted by Johannes Klumpp in the castle of Hundisburg, Germany, during the summer festival in 2012.
Her first appearance in concert as the soprano soloist was 2001 in the cathedrale of Milan. Since then she sang numerous concerts in the USA, South America, Asia and Europe. Her Repertoire reaches from Baroque to contemporal music. 2011 she recorded cantatas by Christoph Graupner which had been previously unreleased for the label Carus under direction of Hans-Michael Beuerle.
Sonja Bühler performed with internationally well-known orchestras such as Les Cornets Noirs and Barockorchester L’arpa festante and sang at festivals such es the Church Music Festival in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Aachener Bachtage, Bachwoche Stuttgart and Musiktage in St. Peter, Germany. She sang under direction of Helmuth Rilling, Morten Schuldt-Jensen, Georg Hage.
Since 2009 Sonja Bühler sings with the SWR Vokalensemble Stuttgart, RIAS-Kammerchor and the Orpheus Vocal Ensemble (Orpheus Chor München) under direction of several internationally reknown conductors such as René Jacobs, Marcus Creed, Gary Graden, Klaas Stok and others. She gives concerts with works by J.S. Bach performed by the ensemble Chapelle de la Vigne which she co-founded in 2009.
Sonja Bühler is also an internationally sought-after voice teacher. In 2007 she gave master-classes at the University of Salatiga in Indonesia; she is a frequent guest lecturer at the musical academy for the youth in Ochsenhausen, Germany, held a position as a associate professor at the college of education in Freiburg, Germany and teaches private students since 2002. |
