Outstanding Specialists in Recreating the Sounds of the Past. Founded by Artistic Director Caroline Brown in 1980, The Hanover Band has established an unrivalled international reputation for the excellence of its performances and recordings of music from the 18th and 19th centuries.
The list of guest-directors who work with the Band reads like a Who's Who of period instrument interpretation; Monica Huggett, Sir Charles Mackerras, Roy Goodman, Nicholas McGegan, Anthony Halstead and Richard Egarr. Recently there has been a new and exciting departure for the wind and brass players with the formation of The Hanover Wind Band, whose aim is to explore the rich repertoire of Sousa, Strauss, Sullivan and their contemporaries.
Based in Sussex The Hanover Band has a long-term strategy to bring musical excellence to the South East of England, developing community links through an extensive education programme. These links have been strengthened further since the Band has moved into its new home, The Old Market, Hove.
With the help of funding from the National Lottery the building's redevelopment has not only given the orchestra a new base for its activities it has become a centre for other local arts, community and education events. |
