The English counter-tenor, William Missin, studied at New College Oxford and the Royal College of Music.
William Missin's repertoire encompasses everything from the renaissance to the contemporary. He is a regular member of groups such as Monteverdi Choir (Director: John Eliot Gardiner), The Clerks Group, Gabrieli Consort (Director: Paul McCreesh), The Sixteen (Director: Harry Christophers) and The Tallis Scholars (Director: Peter Phillips) and Polyphony (Director: Stephen Layton), and he has sung as a soloist with The English Concert (Director: Trevor Pinnock), The Sixteen and The King’s Consort (Director: Robert King) as well as with choirs and orchestras throughout Britain.
William Missin performed in 2004 Purcell Odes for Le Concert d'Astrée (Director: Emmanuelle Haïm) in Paris, George Frideric Handel's Dixit Dominus for the Orlando Chamber Choir (Director: William Dawes) and J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248) for Whitehall Choir both in St. John's Smith Square, and G.F. Handel's Messiah for Birmingham Bach Choir, Hereford Choral Society and Lichfield Cathedral Chamber Choir.
Operas have included Gluck's Orfeo (Finchcocks Festival), Vinao's Rashomon (Vocem Electric Voice Theatre), Benjamin Britten's Midsummer Night's Dream (Anglia Opera), and Freyner's Syrius on Earth (Almeida Opera). Without doubt the highlight of his career has been to get his name and picture in Hello! for playing a castrato opera star in an 18th-century comedy for the RSC.
William Missin taught at Wisbech Grammar School with his wife, Jane Missin. He also led Ramsey Choral Society for four years. In 2012, he suffered a cerebral haemorrhage which left him hospital-bound for almost a year. |
