Raimund Nolte (Bass-Baritone)

Born: Germany

The German bass-baritone, Raimund Nolte, began his musical career as an instrumentalist. After having completed his studies in mathematics, the pedagogy of music and viola. Raimund Nolte received his vocal education from Prof. Josef Metternich, but also took part in various master-classes. Soon, he was invited to sing on stages all over Europe, Israel, the USA and Japan. At present he is being coached by Prof. Irmgard Hartmann.

Raimund Nolte has collaborated with conductors such as Howard Arman, Reinhard Goebel, Wolfgang Gönnewein, Enoch zu Guttenberg, Vladimir Jurowski, Jacov Kreizberg, Helmut Müller-Brühl, Hanns-Martin Schneidt, Christoph Spering, and David Stern. Under the direction of Nikolaus Harnoncourt, he sang Schubert´s Lazarus at the Graz Styriarte. He performed the role of Christ in J.S. Bach's St. Matthew´s Passion (BWV 244) under the baton of Trevor Pinnock in Germany, Japan, Spain, and also at the Salzburg Festival. Under René Jacobs, he sang at the Dresden Musikfestspiele in Johan Gottlieb Naumann´s rediscovered opera Cora and Alonzo.

Raimund Nolte gave his stage debut in 1994 during the festival season in Innsbruck. After two years at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf and Duisburg, he became a member of the ensemble of the Komische Oper Berlin. Today, he regularly performs there as a guest. His roles in Berlin have included Schaunard in La Bohème, Don Fernando in Fidelio, Prince Jeletzki in Pique Dame, Harlequin in Adriadne, and Ping in Turandot.

Raimund Nolte has built up an excellent reputation regarding George Frideric Handel operas and arias of W.A. Mozart. He performed G.F. Handel's Ezio and Radamisto at the Händelfestspiele and the opera house in Halle, Rodelinda at the state theatre in Karlsruhe, Xerxes at the Royal Opera House in Copenhagen, and the leading role in Saul at the Komische Oper Berlin. He sang W.A. Mozart´s Papageno in Düsseldorf and at the Komische Oper Berlin in Harry Kupfer´s new production of The Magic Flute, Guglielmo in Cosi fan tutte in Potsdam and Bielefeld, and Conte Almaviva in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro at the Opéra de Rouen.

In the coming season (2003), Raimund Nolte appears as Sharpless in Madama Butterfly and as Germont in La Traviata at the theatre in Bielefeld.

Raimund Nolte´s repertoire includes almost all main oratorio roles and a large repertoire of Lieder. Numerous radio and CD recordings document his career.
