The Israeli tenor, David Nortman, studied violin and music theory in Jerusalm. At age 13 he moved with his family to Toronto, Canada, where be turned to choral singing in youth choirs and churches, later on singing professionally while studying science, philosophy, and naturopathic medicine.
In recent years David Nortman has specialized in early music, appearing as chorister and soloist with Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Choir, with Baroque opera company Opera Atelier, and on three Naxos recordings with Aradia Baroque Ensemble. He has performed under conductors such as Andrew Parrott, Sigiswald Kuijken, Hermann Max, Bruno Weil, Frieder Bernius, and Helmuth Rilling. As soloist he has appeared with the Taverner Consort and alongside Emma Kirkby. Recently David recorded several of Salamone Rossi’s Hebrew works with Israeli early-music vocal quintet Profeti della Quinta. He is a member of the Israeli Bach Soloists since its foundation in 2008.
Nowadays back in Israel, David Nortman divides his time between singing and clinical practice in classical homeopathy. |
