Damián Ramirez (Counter-tenor)

Born: 1985 - Constitución, Distrito Federal, Argentina

The Argentinean counter-tenor, Joel Damián Ramirez, b egan his professional training in 2007 at Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. He had previously taken lessons from Irene Burt and rehearsed his repertoire with Susana Frangi, among others.

At the age of 19, Joel Damian Ramirez gave his debut as Amor in the French version of C.W. Gluck’s opera Orfeo ed Euridice; in 2006 he took on the role of Orpheus. Between 2007 and 2009, he also appeared in concert, singing selections from J.S. Bach, George Frideric Handel and W.A. Mozart as well as performing in Orff’s Carmina Burana. In addition, in 2009 he sang the roles of Human Frailty and Pisandro in Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria. He was a finalist at the Competizione dell’ Opera in 2008; that same year he attended a master-class with Teresa Berganza. In 2009, he won a prize at the Neue Stimmen Competition.
