Rupert Reid (Baritone)

Born: England

The English baritone, Rupert Reid, was a Lay Clerk at St John's College, Cambridge with Andrew Nethsingha, and a Choral Scholar in the King's College Choir Cambridge, directed by Stephen Cleobury. With King's College Choir Cambridge, he performed as a soloist in the internationally renowned BBC World Service broadcasts of Carols from King's. He is a deputy Lay Vicar in the Westminster Abbey Choir.

Rupert Reid has performed with 4 of the best choirs in the World, as voted by Gramophone Magazine. This includes the group in the number 1 position, the Monteverdi Choir directed by Sir John Eliot Gardiner, of which he is current member and former apprentice.

In concert, Rupert Reid regularly performs as a soloist with Choral Societies and Chamber Choirs. Recent solo engagements include Robert Schumann's Mignon with The Monteverdi Choir / Mahler Chamber Orchestra / John Eliot Gardiner, Monteverdi’s Vespers with the King's College Choir Cambridge at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam / Stephen Cleobury, Purcell’s King Arthur in the York Early Music Festival, Johannes Brahms' Requiem with York Musical Society, J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) in Winchester Cathedral and George Frideric Handel's Messiah with several groups.

Operatic roles include Fennimore and Gerda with Ardente Opera, Purcell's King Arthur at the York Early Music Festival and Dido and Aeneas with Brook Street Band, as well as chorus work at The Opéra Comique in Paris and at the Grande Théâtre of Luxembourg.

As a soloist, Rupert Reid has appeared on BBC Radio 4, BBC 1 and 2 TV, Classic FM, EBU, KBS, Minnesota Public Radio, Radio France, SWR2, VDR and VRT, as well on recordings with the Delphian, EMI and SDG record labels.
